Pregnancy & Prenatal Oral Health “Lunch and Learn”

This training covers:
1) The importance of good oral health to a healthy pregnancy.
2) Oral health risk assessments and targeted counseling during pre-natal visits,
3) Mother/caretaker interviews and anticipatory guidance,
4) Population-specific oral health outreach tools, including written guidance for prenatal women (self-care & infant care),
5) Oral hygiene, fluoride, and nutrition practices that promote oral health

Hands-on clinical training where participants will learn clinical, in-mouth skills of oral health screening, caries risk assessment, treatment need assessment, infection control, and topical fluoride varnish application.

Fluoridation (topical vs. systemic)
Oral hygiene and diet
Presenter: Nancy Reifel, DDS, MPH, of the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry, Division of Public Health and Community Dentistry.
This course is open to all. Typical participants include: community outreach workers; staff who provide center- based and home visitation services; nurses and clinical support staff; and others who work with young children.
